What if presses had to be licensed as radio transmitters are? Then, wouldn't freedom of the press be only indirectly releated to ownership of or access to a press? Why do we continue to let the FCC get away with categorizing electronic media (including the internet?) as "non-press"? Do the people own the airwaves when the government controls how they are used and who can use them, or do the people own the airwaves when anyone can purchase and fire up a transmitter to broadcast in an empty part of the band? Is spectrum space really the scarce commons that we have been told it is? If we have an FCC at all, shouldn't it operate more as traffic cop than as gatekeeper?
