to Rosa: don't be ashamed to be a UCSC student. It helps to keep in mind the vast difference between the student body and the administration. I too am outraged, disgusted, and saddened by the events of monday night. and in response to Graham: the police were nowhere within their rights to respond to peaceful actions with violence. Your response seems to be from the point of view of someone who has not really researched the issue. If you hear some of the testimonials, you will find that some students not participating in the lockdown (also known as "innocent bystanders") were batoned (sp?) in the stomach. That is not enforcement of the law. that is unjustified brutality. I hope you will learn to at least listen to the arguments of both sides before you make such harsh comments.
