USA & Ltd. or USA Ltd.?

What to do, when a state becomes a threat to private business and starts to compete with them? Should we start collecting taxes to our business so we could support our R&D better, or should we fake us to do the subcontracts to the government? Please compare.

Military Helicopters Flying Low Over Santa Cruz

At approximately 1:30 p.m. today six large military helicopters were sighted flying over the Santa Cruz mid-county area. They seemed to be flying especially low and, as such, were extremely noisy and obtrusive.

When I contacted Santa Cruz County's emergency services (911) department, the attendant told me that they had no notice of exercises to be carried out in the area or prior warning about the choppers. She mentioned that she had never seen (such a thing) it before, but felt that there was no cause for alarm, that "they were just passing through."

Children and Natural Disasters

Being caught in a deadly natural disaster is traumatizing. But being a parent with a child, or children, during a natural disaster is an extra fright. Often it is confusing for children during natural disasters, because the adults themselves do not know what is going on. During the 1994 Northridge earthquake, my apartment building collapsed, yet when you ask my son who was nine years old at the time, what the scariest part of the quake was, he will say the stairs. When you ask why the stairs, he says it is because for a brief few seconds on the stairs, he lost hold of my hand. While I was overwhelmed in thought trying to navigate the crumbling building in the dark, his only focus was keeping a hold of my hand, which is really how it should be. When my son was interviewed for a TV show on quakes, he was asked if he was scared during the Northridge quake. His response was he knew it was dangerous, but he knew his mom would keep him safe. A single mom in a disaster, or even two parents during a natural disaster, take on a different role than a single adult during disasters. Their first thought is for someone else’s safety above their own.

Why Do the ACLU and National Lawyers Guild Protect Violent Riot Police?

On June 2, 2003, I was falsely imprisoned and violently assaulted by Seattle riot police on 5th Avenue in downtown Seattle. On March 22, 2003, my son and I were not just falsely imprisoned and assaulted by Seattle Police, but also Federal riot police, and several Federal agencies, including the Department of Immigration, who were armed and on site as well. We were not attacked alone. About 300 hundred, or more, fellow unarmed citizens, committing no crimes, in an area with a city permit for the protest, also suffered my fate, in both instances. After these incidents, the National Lawyers Guild, the Washington American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Seattle City Council, and the Office of Police Accountability (OPA) solicited our written accounts of these illegal cop riots. Additionally, two “activist? lawyers, Larry Hildes and Paul Richmond, showed up on the scene, and solicited their services to the pool of victims. I gave my two city claim cards, filled out, to Paul, and that was basically the end of that. Never heard about it again. So, myself, and hundreds of other victims, sent detailed reports to all of these agencies and people. And I have not been contacted about these events by a single one of all these people or organizations since I handed them detailed reports of illegal police brutality on Seattle streets upon hundreds of people in front of my eyes, even with details of which cops did what, with their physical descriptions and the numbers from their uniforms and helmets. (Oh wait, the OPA did send me a humorous form letter saying the police did nothing wrong. And finally I contacted Hildes this week and I cannot, honestly, tell what he is saying regarding these cases other than no class action cases are filed in the courts in either case). At this point, I feel I should not have even identified myself as being present at these protests, much less where I was, or what I saw, for these people and agencies to deliver…nothing…for that vulnerability.

2004 Was yet another banner year for censorship and repression of free speech. Yet millions of Americans hit the streets in protest. This video shows America in action and makes you wonder, but for our sell out media, what kind of popular movement would we have today?

AN EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION! MOUNTAIN JUSTICE SUMMER

There is an ecological manmade disaster of geologic proportions occurring in the rolling mountains of the southern Appalachians, its called mountain range -- or mountain top -– removal. It is the ultimate in theft of a people's heritage -- the destruction of watersheds -- and the annihilation of one of the most diverse places on earth. And the perpetrators are turning it into the biological equivalent of a parking lot. The theft of our mountains is escalating as the coal companies strive to outdo one another in their orgy of destruction.

Is Cuba Next?

A summary and analysis of the Bush administration plan for regime change in Cuba.

The new government will restore ownership of houses and plantations to former owners, create a major program to vaccinate Cuban children (the most vaccinated children in the world), establish capitalism, and, of course, privatize resources, health care, education, etc., etc, etc. We will establish.? a Transition Coordinator at the State Department to… continue regular transition planning and coordination with other U.S. Government agencies.?

Almost laughably, the plan includes teaching the Cubans how to hold free and fair elections.

The new government will have no place for current government officials and specifically advises that the “transition government... bars Fidel and Raul Castro from any role in a future government... targeting regime officials for U.S. visa denials... visa denial watch lists will be provided to other nations...?

Although the Commission isn’t candid about how the ultimate step to occupation is to be accomplished, it does acknowledge that “there will be resistance to the transition… will therefore require the presence of effective, professional Cuban security institutions (read US trained and equipped army) that are committed fully to supporting the democratic transition…Military modernization will also be important...?

If that doesn’t sound like déjà vu, nothing does. And, in case you think this was all a campaign tactic to win votes in Miami, consider that since November 2nd, rather than backing down, the administration has stepped up its rhetoric, its prosecution of travelers, and its roadblocks to trade.
