There will be exciting discussions centered around movement building and strategy, as well as time set aside for skills sharing. Yet the focus of this year's conference will be "Safety and Effectiveness."

Instructors will be on site to review training techniques and nonviolence tactics. The intention is that we will be more effective if we are fluent in how to carry out safe actions.

2nd Reading on CPRB

The Santa Cruz City Council is calling for a 2nd Reading regarding their ongoing plans to axe the Citizens' Police Review Board, a panel of citizen volunteers whose intended purpose was to oversee police activity in the community. Members of Downtown for All and Cop Watch are all-too familiar with the repressive behavior of the local police, and oppose this board being shut down.

Letter to Scott Kennedy, Killer of Citizen Police Review

The Santa Cruz Police Department has 99 armed and potentially dangerous police officers, 33% of the general fund, and the City is facing a major budget crisis. The CPRB was in the middle of investigating multiple complaints of selective enforcement of people of color and the poor. What does our great "Statesman" Vice-Mayor Scott Kennedy do? He axes the Citizens Police Review Board and can't even get the math right.
