Boxer's Blow: Senator Challenges Ohio Electoral Ballots

California Senator Barbara Boxer was the sole U.S. Senator to join with other U.S. Representatives in contesting Ohio's electoral ballots.

As a result of the objection, both Senate and Congress were dismissed to their respective houses and started a mandated two hour debate on the subject. After the debate, they will resume the joint session; despite the objection, the election is expected to be certified today.

Boxer’s Blow: Senator Challenges Ohio Electoral Ballots

By Will Wallace

At a joint meeting of both houses of congress to certify electoral ballots for president, California Senator Barbara Boxer joined with Ohio’s 11th District Representative, Stephanie Tubbs Jones and other Representatives, in contesting Ohio’s electoral ballots today.

As a result of the objection, both Senate and Congress were dismissed to their respective houses and started a mandated two hour debate on the subject. After the debate, they will resume the joint session; despite the objection, the election is expected to be certified today.

Democrats in both houses took the opportunity to discuss the widespread impediments to voting in Ohio; Kenneth Blackwell’s obvious conflict of interest as both the Secretary of State and Chair for Bush’s Campaign in Ohio; gross technical malfunctions of voting machines and last minute legislation aimed at reducing the number of acceptable provisional ballots. Republicans took the opportunity to denounce democrats, calling them divisive, un-American “whiners? and “Michael Moore conspiracy theorist wannabes.? No Republicans joined Democrats in denouncing widespread voter disenfranchisement in predominantly African-American neighborhoods, despite repeated invitations to do so.

Boxer's letter to Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer sent the following letter to Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones on January 5, 2005

January 6, 2005

The Honorable Stephanie Tubbs Jones
1009 Longworth H.O.B.
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative Tubbs Jones:

I am in receipt of your letter that spelled out concerns about the election irregularities in Ohio during the November 2004 election.

The fact that you are from Ohio and that you are a former judge gives great weight and much credibility to the points you cited and to your plea that these issues be addressed by the Congress.

I was particularly moved by your point that it is virtually impossible to get official House consideration of the whole issue of election reform, including these irregularities.

I have concluded that objecting to the electoral votes from Ohio is the only immediate way to bring these issues to light by allowing you to have a two-hour debate to let the American people know the facts surrounding Ohio’s election.

I will therefore join you in your objection to the certification of Ohio’s electoral votes. Attached is my signature on a copy of your written objection.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

I'm shocked. I didn't think she would do it. Good for her! They will go after her BIG time.

Boxer supported the People. Now the people need to support her. Please send her your thanks in an email, fax or postcard to regional office.

Re: Boxer's Blow: Senator Challenges Ohio Electoral Ballots

Thank you, Senator Barbara Boxer. As a Canadian, I appreciate your courage in speaking up for the people.

Re: Boxer's Blow: Senator Challenges Ohio Electoral Ballots

So Sam Farr voted for it, too!

This is a victory

This is a victory, but Farr and Boxer are not heroes, they were under pressure to this. John Kerry, the presidential candidate of their party is doing nothing to fight for the democratic rights of Americans.

It’s still up to us to the left of the Democrats to be the ones that tell the truth. For any real change it will be up to us to take power.

Re: Boxer's Blow: Senator Challenges Ohio Electoral Ballots

Three Cheers for Boxer and Farr for voting for this. We don't have to repeat the shame of the 2000 election when NOT ONE SENATOR was willing to stand up to the election fraud the placed Bush in the White House.

There were plenty of election fraud issues documented in Ohio for Boxer to vote to object to the election results in Ohio.

I am disappointed that Kerry (not unlike Al Gore) have taken such a low profile on this issue.
