April 17th: Direct Action Training w/ David Solnit

WHAT: Direct Action Training with David Solnit
WHEN: Sunday, April 17th, 2:30-6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Resource Center for Nonviolence, 515 Broadway (off Ocean St.)
Activist David Solnit will help both UCSC students and Santa Cruz community residents gear up for Tent University Santa Cruz the following week with this four-hour workshop on non-violent direct action for peace and justice.

Solnit was one of the key organizers in the direct action against the WTO in Seattle in 1999 and the 2003 shutdown of San Francisco's Financial District the day after the U.S. invasion of Iraq. As co-founder of Art & Revolution, he is a driving force behind the use of puppets, public education, and theater in protests. He is the editor of a new book, Globalize Liberation, that collects diverse and passionate voices aimed at providing a how-to guide to "the new radicalism."

This event is free and open to the public. Residents of the greater community of Santa Cruz (beyond UCSC) are encouraged to come learn more about the following week's Tent University Santa Cruz manifestation, where Solnit will be keynote speaker on April 18th at 6 p.m.
