HOWEVER, I've been getting repeated e-mails decrying the massive police brutality at the event. And I just watched the "shocking" video. If that video is the best you've got, then I call "shenanegans" on the whole brutality thing.
Things claimed in the e-mail include tear gas and the mass clubbing of students. But none of this is on the video. Not one club swung by a cop, not one spray of teargas. I saw police using pressure points to remove protesting students from the mass. And seeing all the craziness running around the police, cameras in their faces, people yelling and screaming at them...I saw restraint on their part, not violence.
You kids crying about "police brutailty" need to climb on down from that hill and get out in the real world. All things considered, you were let off easy.

Pepper Spray Maybe Not, Clubbing, Yes.
Witnesses and the victim himself claimed that a man named Sasha was struck in the face with a club. The perp was allegedly a SCPD officer named Mark Eveleth--who has a bad reputation downtown and in the experience of at least one civil liberties attorney (Kate Wells).
I believe some of that testimony was archived at www.huffsantacruz.org on the April 21 Bathrobespierre's show, 45 minutes or so into the show.
I'll be playing more tape tomorrow (Sunday) around 9:30 AM.

Carotid artery pressure tactics are illegal and constitute police brutality
What the police did do, was use an illegal method known as carotid artery pressure. This is not an authorized use of force yet it was repeatedly used on students in an effort to get them to lose their grip on their fellow students.
Chief Aluffi has already stated that this is an illegal tactic. Anyone who had cartotid pressure applied to them, or witnessed this method used against students should file a complaint with the internal affairs division of the UCSC campus police. Keep a copy and post it here!!
