Miss, Mrs., and Ms.: Control of Women Through Language

When you google the word "Miss," the first page includes entries such as Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss America, Miss 60, Miss Saigon…yet when you google "Mrs." Or "Ms.," you do not get any beauty pageant entries at all. As a matter of fact, instead of Miss Universe, you get Mrs. Field's cookies! At a right-wing Christian website called "Fathers for Life," a writer laments, "You can not refer to a woman by the color of her hair. You can not use Mrs. Or Miss. The indistinguishable Ms. is to replace both." It is interesting who wants gender neutral language and who doesn't. And why.

United Cerebral Palsy Launches DontBlockMyVote.org

Launched Wednesday, United Cerebral Palsy's online campaign,www.DontBlockMyVote.org, allows activists to send a free letter to their Congressmen calling for full funding of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which guarantees equal access to polling places and voting machines for millions of Americans with disabilities. With the last Presidential election hinging on a little over 500 votes, the potential disenfranchisement of 26 million voters with disabilities is an important and significant cause, and the lack of full funding for HAVA could greatly swing a potentially close election. UCP is also in partnership with Rock the Vote, calling on people to register for this year’s elections

Cyprus Government Admits Investigation Against Indymedia and Petros Evdokas Initiated by US Intelligence

cyprus.jpgThe scandal is unfolding in gigantic proportions. Responding to a publicity and solidarity campaign by Indymedia, the Government of the Republic of Cyprus has been forced to admit that they were acting under orders from the US Government to carry out an intelligence investigation of Cyprus Indymedia and of one of its founding members, Petros Evdokas, in order to assess whether he "constitutes a threat to US interests."

Police had interrogated his family a few weeks ago and, during the affair, inadvertently blurted out that the source of this investigation was a directive by the CIA. After a series of denials and cover-ups (chronicled below) the Police Headquarters issued an official statement on Friday admitting to everything that Indymedia had accused them of, namely that directives of the CIA and the US Embassy have priority over their own mission which, believe it or not, is to protect the tiny and independent Republic from foreign intervention.

The Lies from the PA

In this New York Times article, Joseph Berger reports on an incident where a Palestinian terror group was setting up a rocket in front of a Palestinian home in order to launch rockets over the fence and into Israeli settlements. The family objected, only to be fired upon with the resulting death of a 15 year old Palestinian boy. Guess who gets the blame for his death? Israel!!

This is not an isolated incident. When a Palestinian man rapes and beats his wife, he will report that his wife was raped and beaten by IDF soldiers. Then useful idiots like the ISM pick up the banner and condemn Israel for their violence.

This happens all the time.

Here is just one, well-documented incident in which Israel is blamed for Palestinian upon Palestinian violence.

Resurrection of Care at Bohemian Grove

Bohemian Grove in rural Sonoma Country, California is where the Manhattan Project was conceived. So were many other bad things. Ostensibly a retreat for the U.S. elite, the Grove is where the Strangeloves meet the globalizers, and the CEOs hang out with the Bushes. This is a report from the July 18, 2004 protest, where we countered in a creative way.

Right Silly Arguments

How come so many screwball claims about the left from the right come right from left field? Why don’t conservatives balk at throwing so many verbal wild pitches? How many really bad baseball analogies can one introduction contain? Fret not: A look at a few of the ongoing dippy assertions made about liberals is now at the plate.

Collect and Process Blackberries for the Homeless This Summer…

Blackberries grow like weeds all over the Monterey Bay area, and the berries are finally getting ripe. Could you spend a few hours berry picking, and then processing and donating them to food banks? Berries rot on vines all over, but if you spend the time to pick them, and freeze, dry or can them, you can use that abundant wild food source for months to come. My kid laughed at me when I packed the freezer with blackberries last summer. But he was really thankful later, and said so, when we had berry smoothies, berry pies, etc. all winter long. You can pick blackberries daily, and do all kinds of things with them. Make jam, wine, tea, ink, dyes, fruit leather, medicine…
