UCSC Strike Update from Students for Labor Solidarity (SLS)

Well, we did it folks, we basically shut down the campus for two days. We let the administration know that as students, workers, & community members; this campus is ours!

...this is just the start of a long fight to make our campus a more just place for employees.
Hello everyone,

I just wanted to drop a quick note to let you know how the second day of the CUE & UC-AFT strike went.

Well, we did it folks, we basically shut down the campus for two days. We let the administration know that as students, workers, & community members; this campus is ours!

Thanks again to all the folks who came out and showed solidarity!

Well, of course the obvious question now is; did the strike accomplish anything?

This is a tricky question, and one that we will have to wait a little to begin to answer.

As both CUE & UC-AFT head back into negotiations with the University, we hope that this strike sends a strong message to the University that they must take labor unions on campus seriously. And that furthermore, we hope that the University realizes that there is a new sense of solidairty on our campus not only between members of different
unions, but also with students.

One thing is certain though, this is just the start of a long fight to make our campus a more just place for employees.

Students for Labor Solidarity is now planning on regrouping and figuring out some new directions, and we hope that you all can be a part of future labor struggles on our campus!

Thank you very much.

In solidairty,
Max
