The Housing Advisory Committee to the City of Santa Cruz met to discuss housing element requirements, regional housing needs, and housing opportunities at an open meeting last night in Harvey West Park.
The purpose of the Housing Advisory Committee is: To provide technical assistance and expertise to the Housing Element update and to develop policy recommendations for the Planning Commission and City Council. The objectives of the meeting held on February 5th were: To review the Regional Housing Needs and discuss the options available to accommodate the City of Santa Cruzs allocation.

They focused on land resources and the 2002-2007 Housing Element Update. Association of Monterey Bay Governments, AMBAG, assigned 2,850 units to the City of Santa Cruz as their regional housing needs. Santa Cruz has a remaining capacity of 647 new housing units in lower density residential districts and 1,213-unit capacity in higher density sites. These figures take into account environmental, governmental, and market constraints which will be the focus of the next meeting to be held on February 19, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at the Harvey West Scouthouse (326B Evergreen Street).

The committee will address public comments toward the end of the meeting.
