Iraq Action Network & RCNV Emergency Response to War

Iraq Action Network and Resource Center for Nonviolence Emergency Response Updated Calendar: RCNV open as Convergence Center round the clock; nonviolent direct action planned at Recruiters Office, daily nonviolence trainings, affinity groups formation, some groups travel to SF for further nonviolent direct action.

THE IRAQ ACTION NETWORK RECOMMENDS THESE NONVIOLENT ACTIONS:

WED 3/19 NIGHT -- WAR STARTED
* Gather at the town clock vigil and mutual support.

* RCNV Open until midnight.

THURSDAY 3/20 -- 1st RESPONSE DAY

* RCNV Open 9am and 24 hours a day through Thursday & Friday nights: 515
Broadway (@Ocean), 831/423-1626 will be open round-the-clock-for the next
three days. RCNV will be a Convergence Center where people can gather.
Various faith communities will also open their doors.

*Some will gather early at the Town Clock, from there to the Recruiters Office (see next item).

* 8:30am, Rally and Nonviolent Direct Action to shut down Military Recruiting offices
at 41st St & Clares in Capitola. Affinity Group Actions Info: Sherry

* 1-4pm Nonviolence Training for Direct Action at RCNV, 515 Broadway
(@Ocean)

* 5 pm, Rally at the Santa Cruz Clock Tower (Pacific & Water Street). Bring
noisemakers -- pots & pans to bang, musical instruments to play, and your
voice to be heard. Or come with candles for a vigil in the nearby plaza.

* 5:30pm March through downtown and neighborhoods to the County Building
(Ocean and Water St.)

* 7-7:05pm Moment of Silence and Lights Out for the victims of the U.S. oil
war.
* 7:05pm Peace Rally and Campout at the County Building. Speakers, music,
opportunities for prayer, news updates, action alerts, mass nonviolence
trainings and affinity group formation for direct action, legal advice.

* 8pm Nonviolence Training for Direct Action during County Building rally.

FRIDAY 3/21 -- 2nd RESPONSE DAY

* 6:30am, Nonviolent direct action is planned at the Pacific Stock Exchange
in SF. Several local (Santa Cruz) affinity groups will be involved. Legal

* 8:30am, Nonviolent Direct Action to shut down Military Recruiting offices
at 41st St & Clares in Capitola. Affinity Group Action Info: Sherry Delgado,

* Early afternoon or evening After the action at the Recruiting Offices,
some affinity groups will go as a "second wave" to the Stock Exchange in SF.

* 7pm, the Iraq Action Network (IAN) Spokes Council will meet at the
Resource Center for Nonviolence, 515 Broadway (@ Ocean).

SATURDAY 3/22 -- 3rd RESPONSE DAY

* 1-5pm Nonviolence Training for Direct Action at RCNV, 515 Broadway
(@Ocean)

* 7pm, the Iraq Action Network (IAN) Spokes Council will meet at the
Resource Center for Nonviolence, 515 Broadway (@ Ocean).

SUNDAY 3/23 -- 4th RESPONSE DAY

* 5pm Nonviolence Training for Direct Action at RCNV, 515 Broadway (@Ocean)

* 7pm, the Iraq Action Network (IAN) Spokes Council will meet at the
Resource Center for Nonviolence, 515 Broadway (@ Ocean).

March 21, 22, 23 Some local groups will participate in nonviolent direct
action at Vandenberg Air Force Base, the west coast US Air Force operations
center for global satellite information processing and missile guidance. For
more information go to mgpnofate.org/ Infiltrating the base may
involve higher risks of arrest or physical danger. Legal Support: speak with
organizers. !!BE AWARE THAT THE MILITARY HAS ANNOUNCED THAT ILLEGAL ENTRANCE
ON TO THE MILITARY BASE IS SUBJECT TO A "SHOOT TO KILL" RESPONSE.

THE IRAQ ACTION NETWORK (IAN)The Iraq Action Network is made up of local
peace and justice groups, including the Santa Cruz Peace Coalition, Santa
Cruz Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Santa Cruz
Peacemakers of the Resource Center for Nonviolence, the Quakers Peace and
Social Order Commission, Art and Revolution, Bill Motto Post of the VFW,
Santa Cruz Central Labor Council, and members of several other local groups.
IAN Meetings: Sundays at 5 p.m. at the Resource Center for Nonviolence.

NONVIOLENCE GUIDELINES for all participants in RCNV actions:
1) We will not harm anyone, but will be nonviolent in words and actions.
2) We will treat every person with respect.
3) We will not damage or deface property.
4) We will not carry any weapons.
5) We will not bring or use any alcohol or drugs, other than for medical
purposes.
6) We will not resist arrest.
