Progressive Voices on KSCO (10.80am)

Tune in to KSCO at around 12:15 to hear a discussion on the coming war in Iraq. You will hear an update from Boulder Creek resident, Wade Hudson, who arrived in Baghdad, Iraq this week as a member of the Iraq Peace Team. Joining the V-Man (from Free Radio Santa Cruz) on the phone will be Charlie Richardson of Military Families Speak Out. Also on the line will be Erik Gustafson, a Gulf War veteran and executive director of Education for Peace in Iraq Center. With the U.S. poised on the brink of another war with Iraq, it is critical that we hear from people like Wade, Charlie, and Erik.

Tune in to KSCO, this Monday, March 17 between 12:15 and 1:00pm. Call in with questions at 479-1080 or 477-1340. And please encourage the management at KSCO to EXPAND this type of programming!!!

Pretty Words, Ugly Actions: Dump Recycled Politicians!

The city of Santa Cruz held a Town Hall Meeting with Congressman Sam Farr about a possible U.S. attack of Iraq. Robert Norse, an organizer with Homeless United for Friendship & Freedom delievered a potent speech, "Ending Two Wars," addressing war abroad while drawing connections to local injustice. "We need to get to the real issues that this War is stealing from us: Housing, Health Care, Civil Rights for the Poor, Ending Judicial & Police Corruption, Restoring Decent Wages, Stopping Corporate Power & the UC octopus. We need to declare Santa Cruz and this entire 17th Congressional District a sanctuary for those who resist the war. We, the community, can do this. We need to stay out on the streets continuously until these issues are addressed." Listen to Sam Farr's speech, a soundbite collage, and constituent reactions from the Town Hall Meeting.

New Programming Collective to Facilitate Events and Actions

A new Santa Cruz Programming Collective is an organized group of people that are committed to booking events and laying the groundwork for a whole new era in the Santa Cruz independent music & activism scene. We can promote education, awareness and political action through our events, and shake up widespread apathy and passivity. The collective will make booking successful shows more fun and easier when we work together, and make this activity accessible to anyone - encouraging people to do it themselves! We feel a resource like this is just what Santa Cruz needs. For now, meetings will be Thursdays, 7:00pm at the Wired Wash Cafe.
