Santa Cruz, Ca. --- At their October 20th meeting, HUFF members endorsed the candidacy of Robert Norse and Coral Brune as their choice for seats on the Santa Cruz City Council. "We looked at the candidate field and didn’t see anyone who was representing very low income or homeless people," said Coral Brune from her home in Santa Cruz. Brune registered her signatures with the City Clerk on Tuesday. Brune is currently employed as a teachers aid at a local middle school.
Robert Norse, a 30 year activist, and host of Bathrobespierre’s Broadsides: Civil Rights for the Poor for the past 8 years on Free Radio Santa Cruz 101.0 FM, recently won a federal lawsuit against the City of Santa Cruz when City Attorney John Barisone settled with Norse for a false arrest case by Sgt. "Butchie" Baker in January of 2002. Norse proposed an immediate "End to abusive laws and practices that criminalize the homeless and poor like the Sleeping Ban, the Sitting Ban, and other severe Downtown Ordinances." Norse promises to show what this criminalization practice is costing us in dollars and cents.
HUFF, an eleven year old civil rights advocacy organization for poor and homeless people, urges Santa Cruz City Voters to WRITE-IN Robert Norse and Coral Brune at the November 2, 2004 election
for the Santa Cruz City Council.
