We are very pleased to announce that the Santa Cruz Independent Media Center's website will now be regionally integrated with Indybay.org, the website of the San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center. The new website address for Santa Cruz Indymedia is
Indybay.org/SantaCruz.
Together, as media activists in Central and Northern California and throughout the world, we will use the tactic of Indymedia to share news and information from within the struggles for a world based on freedom, cooperation, justice and solidarity, and against environmental degradation, neoliberal exploitation, racism and patriarchy.
All the reporters, photographers, sound recorders, videographers, organizers and activists who contribute to SC-IMC's open-publishing newswire are the heart and soul of Santa Cruz Indymedia.

DeNuke UC! -- UCSC Students Rally Against Bechtel and Nuclear Proliferation
02 Dec 2005
(Updated)
by UCSC Students Against War
On Wednesday, November 30 – the UC wide Nuclear Day of Action
(announcement and PR), approximately one hundred UCSC students took part in a spirited rally at the quarry plaza on the UC campus. The day’s events, called “DeNuke UC, sent a loud and clear message to UCSC administration, the UC Regents as well as President Robert Dynes that Santa Cruz students do not stand for nuclear proliferation in the name of education.
The 2-hour long event, organized by the UCSC Students Against War, featured performances by the Raging Grannies, speeches by students and community members as well as a guerrilla-theatre “UC-Bechtel wedding ceremony. The day was culminated by an informative talk by former Lawrence Livermore Lab employee and whistleblower, Leuren Moret.
By decorating the colorful papier-mache bomb in the center of the crowd with writing and art, students, faculty, and community members were able to share their thoughts on the Bechtel-UC partnership as well as the continued research of new nuclear weapons at UC-run labs. “Don’t take my money for nuclear development: don’t steal my education, read one quote, another called for the dismissal of the UC Regents and President Dynes.

UCSC's weekly "Weapons Inpsections" Tour a success
24 Apr 2005
(Updated)
by Students Against War
On Friday April 22, Students Against War kicked off a weekly "Weapons Inspections" tour to raise awareness about the presence of the military-industrial complex at UCSC. Every Friday, a "Weapons Inspections" tour will leave the Bay Tree Bookstore at 12:30 - everyone is welcome to join.
The Weapons Inspections tour seeks to educate students about the 35 military-funded research projects being conducted by UCSC staff on campus and the UC's ongoing management of the nuclear labs at Los Alamos, NM and Livermore, CA. About 30 students marched up to science hill and held a loud and horrible die-in in the plaza at Baskin Engineering, where most of this research is being done. The Weapons Inspections team then searched the science library for weapons of mass destruction in a silent, single-file procession and passed out information to students there.
