Re: LUNCH HOUR CRITICAL MASS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice photo. how was the ride?

by the way, i tried to make it out the critical mass at the end of october, but nobody was at the town clock at 6pm.

Re: LUNCH HOUR CRITICAL MASS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was a fun ride! there were about 15 of us (due to the short notice) but it was beautiful outside. we rode around downtown for a bit, then headed toward the boardwalk, then rode down the boardwalk. see yall on the last friday of the month at 6!

Re: LUNCH HOUR CRITICAL MASS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

critical mass in it's childish behavior, is offering the best argument possible for restricting the use of roadways. The behavior of its members is childish at best, and will ultimately hurt there cause. but this seems to be of little concern to this group of anarchists who just seem to live for causing problems for the rest of the city. (personally I think impounding bikes would be a great answer) (like Oakland does with the side shows) and we could have a bike auction every other month, I for one would love to pay low dollar for a "trek 5900" and I promise I won't disrupt city services......

Re: LUNCH HOUR CRITICAL MASS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell Rick to lighten up.
I would surmise that the very purpose of this emergency session critical mass incursion was to indulge in some childish behaviour that is to say some frivolity, some blowing off steam after the oh so depressing news of 11/2/04.

Re: LUNCH HOUR CRITICAL MASS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed that a few comments were deleted. They didn't sound all that important, but I didn't notice anything that would really warrant their deleting. I would like to know if indymedia is tightening up its monitoring of posts and if so, why? When I see things like that happening it makes me not want to contribute to indymedia.

observant

3 comments were moved to the compost bin where they can be viewed. There seems to be an increase in the amount of trolling on sc-imc since the raid of FRSC, the RNC, and other attacks on the indymedia network. In my opinion, the goal of a troll is to make people "not want to contribute to indymedia."

* On a different note and also just an opinion, as long as people keep making media, this site and others like it will be a great resource! However, if this site is used more as a "forum for discussion" then we will see long, often tiresome, comment threads and people will lose interest....

this is your site, you are santa cruz indymedia.
this is our site, we are santa cruz indymedia.
take it to the streets.

Re: LUNCH HOUR CRITICAL MASS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does "moved to the compost bin" mean? Whoever responded to me never states WHY the posts were removed. (saying they were an example of trolling begs the question, what is trolling?) This is what I am interested in.

Re: LUNCH HOUR CRITICAL MASS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Critical Mass is definitely not "childish" behavior. Iseenothing child-like about feeling a deep and profound concern for our society, health and environment; as well as demonstrating the courage and commitment to act on these feelings. Even when it means possibly being attacked (verbally or otherwise) by some ignorant fat-ass who couldn't extract his butt from his car fast enough to catch us. C.M. is a political and social statement intended to disrupt the flow of cars for just a few moments (only 15 bikes on Friday) - hopefully long enough to give the car people a moment to think about getting out of their personal pollution creators. What's really childish is some of the behavior I've seen from the car people -- honking, cussing, pointing with their middle finger -- all because they have to sit and wait an extra 60 seconds at an intersection!! And I thought they liked their cars. I doubt if Rick can even ride a bike.

trolls in the bin

The "Compost Bin..." (below the newswires) is where "hidden articles" go. The Santa Cruz Indymedia editorial policy is the guide used for monitoring the newswire.

I know.... this still "begs the question" Why were those those comments hidden? There is no simple answer. The posts were from a troll.

The tactic of Santa Cruz Indymedia always needs help from observant people like you! If you are still interested in newswire moderation, come to a SC-IMC meeting or send an email to scimc(at)indymedia.org Or, keep publishing and commenting, that's great too.
