On April 12, 2002, the world awoke to the news that Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez had been removed from office and replaced by a new government. Chavez, the democratically elected president of Venezuela, beloved by his nation's poor and working class, makes a colorful unpredictable folk hero and a tough-as-nails, quixotic opponent to the power structure that would see him deposed.
Consider this a bug in your ear. Oh, and why does a tiny little nation on another continent matter to us? Because like Iraq, they're sitting on our oil! Throw your lawn chair, a warm blanket (it's expected to be clear and cold), and a picnic basket in the bike trailer and join us at the Big Yellow House. See you Friday...

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
On April 12, 2002, the world awoke to the news that Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez had been removed from office and replaced by a new government. Chavez, the democratically elected president of Venezuela, beloved by his nation's poor and working class, makes a colorful unpredictable folk hero and a tough-as-nails, quixotic opponent to the power structure that would see him deposed.
Two independent documentary filmmakers were inside Venezuela and suddenly found themselves in the heart of a coup d'état and captured those frightening moments and days in which a nation's political future hung in the balance. They were also present 48 hours later when, remarkably, Chavez returned to power amid cheering crowds. Their film records what was probably history's shortest-lived coup d'état.
