Long Live the Green Bridge!

We have the advantage of a large national exposure, the healthy momentum of a broad and thorough campaign, solid community support and the deep understanding that we are acting on behalf of the majority public opinion and the health of one of Earth's most vital remaining wild areas. There are two court cases pending in Federal Court, either of which hold the possibility of shutting this logging down.
Friends -

The public encampment defending the Wild Siskiyou continues at the Green Bridge on the Illinois River - and we need your support! Yesterday over 100 people gathered in the predawn mist on Eight Dollar Mountain Road to meet the logging crew and their massive law enforcement entourage as they arrived to begin the first logging of the Fiddler old growth reserve timber sale.

Eleven people were arrested for peacefully blockading the road into this ecologically extraordinary area. It was a compelling and tragic day - but the struggle is not over! This is a massive timber sale that will take weeks to complete, part of the largest logging project in modern history - and what happens here once the dust settles will set precedent for decades of future forest policy. This is the time to take a stand and have it count where it matters.

The encampment is a legal, inclusive gathering of forest lovers at a fantastically beautiful spot on the Illinois River. We are overwhelmingly supported by local residents, who bring us firewood and food daily. We are also receiving tremendous national and even international media coverage on television, newspapers and radio, and the press passes through frequently.

Please come visit us- there are many ways to contribute to this historic and exciting campaign. We need volunteers to monitor the active logging and determine if they are operating lawfully, we need infrastructure support for the camp (kitchen, communications, supply runs etc), and we need able minds and bodies for the next waves of creative opposition to this extreme and unjust project. Join us, you won't be sorry!

There are two court cases pending in Federal Court, either of which hold the possibility of shutting this logging down.

We can also use donations of food, supplies and money- and ask everyone willing to write Senator Wyden, submit a letter to the editor and give comments to the Forest Service.

To get to the camp- take Highway 199 west from Grants Pass about 25 miles - go through Selma but not all the way to Kerby and take a right on Eight Dollar Road. Go a few miles until you reach the Green Bridge. You can't miss us - the main camp is on the right on the far side of the bridge.

See you there!

in solidarity,

Re: Long Live the Green Bridge!

The author didn't mention that this area is in the Southwest corner of Oregon, just in case you were wondering like I was.
