50 Years of Death and Destruction

marked by NONVIOLENT resistance

Lawrence Livermore National Lab, one of the Nation’s primary nuclear weapons Labs is celebrating its 50th Birthday with the slogan, "50 Years of Making History…50 Years of Making a Difference". You are needed to remind folks what they are celebrating the continued development of weapons of mass destruction. The time is now to oppose the continued development of nuclear bombs, including new, earth penetrating nuclear weapons.

The Lab’s community day will begin shortly after 8am, and we will be at the gate, with placards reading, "Nuclear weapons science? Your mind is a terrible thing to waste." On the Lab’s sponsored community day, the community will voice its concern about the continued development of nuclear weapons and the attendant pollution. It is the community’s water, soil and air that continue to be polluted from Lab activities. The continued development of nuclear weapons is supported by a minority of the world’s population, yet is these nuclear weapons that continue to jeopardize all life on the planet.

Just after 4 PM the Lab will have a time capsule ceremony at its Visitor’s Center. We’ll be back with our signs and leaflet the crowd. We’ll present a Birthday cake to the Lab that demands an end to the 50 years of terror.

Please contact Tara at Tri-Valley CAREs if you can attend (925) 443-7148. No Lab party is a good party with out a bit of protest.
