April 24, 2005 - Mumia Birthday Event with Michael Franti
Michael Franti has confirmed that he will play an acoustic benefit concert on Mumia's birthday, Sunday, April 24, 2 pm at Mission High School, SF! Mission HS is located at 18th and Dolores st in SF. Admission is $20 general, $15 for students and seniors. The auditorium's capacity is approximately 2,200. We will need an expanded Mobe team of organizers and volunteers to ensure the event's success.
[Michael Franti's summer Power to the Peaceful Festival drew close to 50,000 at Golden Gate Park, SF. His new documentary on his journey to Iraq, Palestine, Israel and Jordan premiered at the recent Slamdance Film Festival in Utah].
Other confirmed speakers for April 24 are:
**Lynne Stewart, assuming that she is free and not in prison. If she is able to come and speak in SF, it will signify a major victory, and her freedom, against a terrible government frame-up on terrorism conspiracy charges, or a hung jury, which means that the government will think twice before they decide to have a second trial. In any case, Lynne here, free, will be an inspiration at Mumia's birthday event that a frame-up can be beaten.
**Robert R. Bryan, Mumia's lead counsel
There is also a national day of action planned for Mumia on April 23, in New York.
