Send this letter to chancellor Denton

The more letters she gets, the more she will have to listen to us.
I am a concerned UCSC student. After the Monday night events that unfolded between police and protesters I do not feel safe. I am afraid of the extent to which your administration authorized to use of brutal force to destabilize non-violent protesters.

After seeing how your administration handled their concerns I have seen that their actions have validity. Your administration's actions were more than inappropriate. They were traumatizing. This is not what a University should feel like.

Furthermore it is outrageous to read about Elizabeth Irwin's efforts to lie and cover up the violent nature of the police assault. Ironic for a University that boasts the slogan "fiat Lux".

I hope you will take necessary measures-including firing Elizabeth Irwin-to reestablish trust with the students that you work for and represent.

Yours,

Re: Send this letter to chancellor Denton

I am not a student,I am a mom of a student who was a part of this peaceful demonstration.I am outraged that you allowed this to happen,I know for a fact these students have been meeting with administration for weeks prior to this event. My daughter was not arrested,or assaulted, thank God,but she witnessed the brutality on fellow students and friends, you should be ashamed of yourself!Ucsc promotes activism,if you don't want your students to have a voice then stop teaching these classes and stop using these kids as puppets! This was a peaceful protest on the part of the kids, the photos I have viewed make my stomach turn.

tell denton you won't be a supportive alum

You know what really freaks out top administrators at UC???? Parents. Parents and well placed alumni who withdraw support. A well organized group of angry parents who have either pledged money to UC or who were contemplating pledging money, who withdraw it until certain demands are met, makes for agitated upper level admins. Letters send to directors of development, alumni affairs as well as the chancellor have an impact...i.e. in the wallet. A campaign aligning alumni who don't like the direction of the U hurts as well. Demand specifics...as in an investigation as to who was responsible for turning the cops on unarmed students...an investigation as to whether undue force was used, an investigation into the accounting for false facts by the University spokeswoman. Unless demands are met ask to be removed from any future contact for donations or other support. Let UC administrators who are accountable to NO ONE learn that there is a bigger world out there of parents who don't send their kids to school to get beat up.

Irwin spins yarns for the corporate media to lap up

Liz Erwin was the source of the "information" that TUSC students were using drugs and alcohol prior to the crackdown. According to Police Chief Mickey Aluffi, no drugs or alcohol were found and no one was charged with using drugs or alcohol.

Likewise, reports of "6 noise complaints" made prior to 8PM at TUSC on Monday night are also suspect....unless Denise Denton had the police dept. number on her speed dialer!!

Irwin didn't comment on any noise complaints made after two firetrucks showed up, 30 police in riot gear, and students screaming in pain from the pain compliance holds used by the authorities.

Certainly it was much noiser AFTER the police got there than it was earlier when 300 students were setting up tents preparing to go to sleep for the night.
