it looks like CUE either hasn't finished with their vote or the vote was not sufficient to the terms of their contract (40% of members voting, 2/3rds of that voting yes). there's nothing more recent than early may on their website. ??

Although UPTE has not been highly visible in the last two years among our brothers and sisters in the University Labor United, we are a strong union with a tradition that goes back to our first strike on the day of MRC's Greenwood's investiture. Our strike prevented the keynote speaker to that event, Leon Panetta, from attending, and resulted a few weeks later in our first contract. We did that with 40 people at UCSC, alone, not with our Statewide organization.

The administration has told us that they are afraid that our strike will get hijacked by some outside group. I think this speaks to their notion
that we are weak and can be pushed around by bully with a megaphone.

We all know that if anyone tried to take our event over, we, as a coalition of union members and students, will not participate in civil disobedience that -- honorable and effective as it is -- is not what this UPTE strike is about.
