Film showing of "Rachel Corrie: An American Conscience" 10/2/05 @ RCNV
Come to a film showing of "Rachel Corrie: An American Conscience" at the Resource Center for Nonviolence at 7PM on Sunday October 2nd. $5-20 suggested donation to benefit the International Solidarity Movement (no one turned away for lack of funds).
This documentary chronicles Rachel Corrie's humanitarian work with the International Solidarity Movement in Rafah, Gaza Strip. In March 2003, an Israeli soldier in a Caterpillar D-9 bulldozer crushed Corrie while she stood in front of a Palestinian home to prevent its demolition. Director Yahya Barakat, a professor in the Mass Media and TV Department at Al-Quds University in Jerusalem, worked for two years editing 80 hours of film footage from Gaza, the West Bank and Olympia, Washington to make the film. Corrie made a conscious decision to travel to Rafah and assess the root-causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Through interviews with her parents, viewers learn about Rachel. The result is a cinematic collage of international voices; people who work for peace and who support the Palestinians in their daily life activities. The result is a collective chastisement of the military occupation, the U.S. and Israeli Governments, as well as U.S. mainstream media.
