Foothill Anti-Capitalist Action Committee Shuts Down Military Recruiters by Default

The Foothill Anti-Capitalist Action Committee spread the word of a protest on November 1, 2005 against the military recruiters who table in the quad every Tuesday at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California. However on this Tuesday, the military recruiters failed to show up. It looks like the military learned about the protest and thought it would be a better idea to stay away from it, rather than be the focus of the demonstration.

About 15 people marched from the Smithwick Theater plaza to the quad where people eat lunch and take breaks between classes. A lot of people were very supportive of the demonstration, which included a mobile sound system.

the sound system probably is used to make the actual turnout seem a lot bigger than it actually is. fifteen ppl showed up, Big Wow

To Anonymous Asshole: Your attempts to denigrate the actions which may have helped keep military vultures/recruiters off that campus - and will likely affect whether or not those recruiters show up in th efuture, is duly noted, though complete bullshit. Fifteen is better than five and five is better than none. The intended effect was still had and that's what counts. Much love and solidarity to the demonstrators. Good job!

Am I reading this right or did the administration try to shut down the protest in the middle of the afternoon -- claiming that "Free Speech Time" is over? At UCSC "Free Speech Time" runs until 8PM or at least sunset I think, unless people such as Tent University take back their first amendment rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.
