Hope in Cynical Times - Rajiv Vora, Friday, Dec. 9, 7PM

“Hope in Cynical Times" is the subject of a Friday, Dec. 9th, 7pm presentation by Rajiv Vora, preeminent interpreter of
Mahatma Gandhi’s writings, a trainer and organizer of multi-culture and inter-national peace- making teams in India and Sri Lanka.
“Rajiv Vora is one of the most spiritually, grounded, politically perceptive and articulate Gandhians today; he is a man who lives simply and walks his talk? says David Hartsough, founder of the International Nonviolent Peaceforce for which Vora is the Asia Coordinator.

The event is sponsored by the Resource Center for Nonviolence (RCNV) and hosted by the Santa Cruz Friends Meeting House, 225 Rooney St. (at the Hwy. 1 Morrissey exit).

Bob Fitch, RCNV staff and photojournalist, will introduce Vora’s talk with a slide presentation of images recently taken in Sri Lanka while documenting the work of Nonviolent Peaceforce field teams.

Vora’s achievements include: 40 years active involvement in the Gandhian movement; being the interpreter of Gandhi’s root text, Hind Swaraj; training Muslim and Hindu youth members of Shanti Sena, a nonviolent peace army working in areas of ethnic conflict in India; and staff of the Gandhi Peace Foundation based in New Delhi India.

Mr. Vora, under the leadership of Jai Prakash Narayan, was a principal leader of the India Democracy movement. He was the former editor of Gandhimarg, the Hindu language periodical of Gandhian thought.
