Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (December 16) is up at the website
< >in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:52)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From NETHERLANDS- After large race riots broke out in Australia this past weekend, Prime Minister Howard denied that racism was a factor- this follows tough new anti-terrorist laws enacted last week, which primarily focus on the immigrant community. A press review about the CIA secret prison scandal that is still a primary news item in the international media. The Colombian government is offering to hold talks with the FARC rebels, with the hope of exchanging hostages and a possible peace settlement. A former Dutch Prime Minister is pushing for an expansion of nuclear power plants in the Netherlands.
From RUSSIA- At the World Climate Change Conference in Montreal, new agreements about implementing the Kyoto Protocols were made, though the US delegation walked out when they were pressured to sign the pact- later Bill Clinton made minor amends by suggesting that Americans would become more energy efficient. The US Defense Department has been shadowing antiwar groups and members in the US. Then a commentary on the current US military practice of writing positive articles about the situation in Iraq, and then bribing Arab news sources to print them.
From CUBA- Protesters clashed with police at the WTO meeting in Hong Kong, while rich and poor nations clashed inside over trade barriers and farm subsidies. Israeli military forces have been ordered to be ready for possible strikes on Iran's potential uranium enrichment sites.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- < >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- (13.3MB)
