I heard from a reliable source that there will be people gathering for peace and against war at 5 PM Wednesday, January 29 at the town clock. This is to voice frustration at Bush's misstate of the union address and is also in solidarity with
www.UnitedForPeace.org who have put out a call to action.
Wednesday, January 29- REPRESENT and RESPOND!
United for Peace and Justice calls for local actions across the country to REPRESENT the majority of the world's people who support peace, who support justice, and who stand against war. Create your own local-flavored action to RESPOND to Bush's cries for war, to say no to attacks on immigrant rights, and to refuse more tax cuts for the rich. International ANSWER, Win Without War, the National Network to End the War in Iraq and other coalitions have also issued calls for decentralized anti-war protests on January 29th. With everyone organizing activities on this day we are expecting hundreds of actions
crying out against war!
What? Create a local action that fits for your community.
•Organize a Public Speak Out or press conference to respond to Bush
•Organize a call-in day to Congress or Bush on your campus
•Hold a peace vigil or interfaith prayer service
•Hold a house party or forum to discuss “The Real State of the Union”
•Hold a town hall meeting and invite elected officials. Ask public officials to provide a report on how much each taxpayer will pay for the war and what it will mean for local education, health care, and services for the poor
•Press your City Council to pass a resolution against the war (see
www.citiesforpeace.org)
•Post a No War in Iraq sign in your window
WHERE? Wherever people gather in your community!
Head to your local peace vigil, emergency action, city council meeting, mayor’s office, senator’s office, congressperson’s office, parish assembly, federal building, sporting event, shopping mall, Laundromat, mall, town square, campus student center, high school debating club, post office, gas station, barber shop, coffee shop… For more ideas go to
