Indynewsreal is a news format show produced by citizens of Santa Cruz, and put together by members of IMC with the help of the resources at Community Television. This exciting new show started in January of this year, episodes starting on the first Wednesday of the month and repeating throughout the month at the same time, at 7pm on Wednesday evenings.

Indynewsreal consists of independently produced segments submitted by you, the community, covering progressive news that goes unseen by the public because the investor owned media either chooses to ignore it, doesn't consider it newsworthy to misrepresents it. We are looking for current reports of people and organizations taking action to educate about, and work towards, progressive social, environmental, and economic justice. We want to show that there are real issues out there and that many positive things are happening in response to these issues. Resistance is happening all around us and we want to show it!

January's episode received great feedback. It included a piece on Peace Fridays, an ongoing anti-war demonstration at the intersection of Ocean and Water; a piece on the anti-war demonstration in San Francisco on January 18th attended by 300,000 people; and a segment on WAMM, in their ongoing struggle with the authorities of Santa Cruz.

This show is meant to be a venue for us to speak out about issues that affect OUR lives. In the often quoted words of Biafra, "Don't hate the media, Become the media." This is an opportunity to do just that. The resources are available to us, we just need to access them.

To get involved, stop by Community Television and pick up a Producer's Guide in the front reception area. Community Television is a fantastic resource to media activists. They offer low cost classes on production, equipment, lighting, editing, and after you become a member and complete the certification process, their facilities and equipment are open to you. Scholarships are also available.
