Contemporary Strategies of Resistance [CSR]

Thursday, April 10, 6pm-7:30pm
Louden Nelson Community Center, RM 3
301 Center Street
Santa Cruz, CA 95060

CSR is a multi-generational event which aims to historicize political repression in the U.S. during the late 20th century as a means of elucidating the effects of that moment on our contemporary sense of opposition to the state and how we imagine resistance today. We are asking participating groups to speak from their location and contextualize their work. We are specifically interested in addressing the extent to which increased policing of soical and racial justice groups, anti-war organizations and anti-neoimperialist groups affects how we go about organizing a broad based movement. These presentations should be short so that we may facilitate a discussion with the audience which will be comprised of other organizations, students, educators and community members.
This event is sponsored by the Research Cluster for the Study of Women of Color in Collaboration and Conflict and the Center for Cultural Studies @ the University of California, Santa Cruz.

SUP: we were hoping that you all could do two things: 1) select some folks to talk about how SUP functions, what it's objectives are and how it feels it's managed to intervene/contribute to antiwar organizing on campus and in the SC area at large. basically, this portion should address the issues mentioned above in light of some of our concerns. 2) muster a large number of people to attend the event from various organizations that are affiliated with SUP. we want this to be a discussion rather than a panel
or academic paper giving kind of thing, so we ask that participants keep their presentations short so that we may get more folks involved in the discussion about what it means to organize under such dire conditions.
