UCSC students are holding a 24-hour peace camp/vigil on the Porter College lawn. since monday april 7, a group of 12 to 15 students have created an anti-war space for student activists to gather and discuss the strategic future of student activism at UCSC.

the purpose of the "peace camp" is to protest the devastation of Iraqi civilian livelihood through the wars on Iraq and twelve years of economic sanctions.

the university has expressed the intent to support the students but are firm on the university sleeping ban which restricts anyone at any time of day to sleep outdoors, whether camping or simply taking a nap.

students are complying to the university's sleeping-ban policy. tents will not be erected until furthur negotiations on a shelter from rain. the group decision is to maintain the "peace camp" for as long as it could, and has of yet not taken action toward challenging the university's political practices (i.e. developing weapons and knowledge in weapons for the military while taking an anti-war stance) and social practices (i.e. cheating the students out of an education by creating a system of temporary faculty and staff).

the "peace camp" needs your support. come by, hang out, share your presence, ideas, blankets, and food!
