MOSS LANDING, Calif. -- A fire is burning near the power plant at Moss Landing.
The fire broke out behind the Duke Energy near Highway 1 at about 4 p.m. A 6 million-gallon storage tank used for diesel reportedly exploded.
The fire is sending thick clouds of smoke into the air and is visible up and down the Central Coast. The smoke is billowing to the east, and officials are telling anyone with respiratory problems to stay inside.
Firefighters reportedly plan to let the fire burn.
