Where did the ELF come from? As the story goes, the ELF was formed in Brighton, England in 1992 by Earth First! members realizing that their tactics must intensify if they were going to make an effort to truly save the environment. The following year they are said to have declared solidarity with the Animal Liberation Front . While there is no real documentation of this or any early history of the ELF, in February of 1994 Judi Bari wrote in the Earth First journal that she felt that Earth First! "should mainstream itself and give financial,technical support as well as serving to recruit and train new members for more radical tactics of the Earth Liberation Front". since then Earth First has raised money and recruited conscripts, and operated secret training camps in the woods near Humboldt. EF has also started investing donated money into office buildings, an apartment building, and a recording company. all of which have been listed as being owned privately by the leadership of earth first.
while leaving their tree sitters to go hungry, as in the lower tree sit's last year. and in the case of jailed sitters - who are left without support or legal defense. so you see there is a lot more to the elf than what they claim!
