BOYCOTT SAFEWAY RALLY
NOON, FRIDAY 2/20
BAY TREE PLAZA
Find out from workers from Southern California what's going on with SFWY and get TAPS to send the shopper shuttle elsewhere so that students don't have to break the strikeline!
Healthcare is rising everywhere, but SFWY takes the cake for trying to implement a healthcare plan that most workers won't even be able to afford.
Everyone should have affordable healthcare.

Nothing is free - quit sleeping through Economics. Every thing you demand for yourself or someone else at below market price, means someone gets robbed.
Affordable healthcare, like the Great Pyramids of Egypt, seems like a great idea only so long as you turn a blind eye to the millions of slaves it takes to create it.
If you dont like the rising cost of medicine in America, don't blame Safeway. Take your gripe to the American Medical Association and the Food & Drug Administration, helping doctors and pharmaceutical companies (respectively) to keep competition out of the market.

Re: Boycott SFWY Rally-2/20, UCSC
Unfortunately we are dealing with three parent companies that are working together in various ways, including sharing profits, to defeat this strike. Instead of the call to boycott Safeway we need to raise the call: Boycott Vons/Safeway, Albertson's, and Ralph's/Krogers! This along side calls for more effective action than boycotts.
Recent other postings on Indymedia would have us think that the Safeway management are the good guys. The only difference between Walmart and Safeway as employers is that the workers at Safeway have won union contracts that have bettered their situations. Today Safeway management is on the attack to ruin the workers whose labor keeps them employed.
What we are dealing with is a company that needs to be shut down everywhere. Allowing Safeway to continue to make profits in other parts of the country, including here, is part of the failure of the strategy of the UFCW leadership. All union work for the company should cease, this to save the jobs and healthcare of the southern California workers, thereby securing a more stable future for the workers everywhere.
Another part of this failure of the UFCW leadership's strategy is boycotting only one store when three companies are working together to break this strike.
Rank and file workers should demand the union misleadership join them in shutting down Vons/Safeway, Albertson's, Ralph's/Krogers!
