Women in Islam Week

The UC Santa Cruz Muslim Student Alliance presents "Women in Islam Week." All are welcome to this week-long event of educational talks, dialogue, and a poetry performance to challenge and deconstruct stereotypes and misconceptions of Women in Islam.

On Tuesday, April 20, there will be a Question and Answer panel of four Muslim women from different backgrounds sharing their unique experiences.

Wednesday's event, Women and Islamic Law (Shariah), will be presented by Stanford Professor Hina Aza.

On Thursday, April 22, there will be a spoken word performance by an artist collective based in the Bay Area called Calligraphy of Thought.

UC Santa Cruz Muslim Student Alliance
About MSA

As the only Muslim student organization on campus, the UCSC MSA has quite a lot to accomplish. The MSA strives to embody the concepts of unity, strength and activism and implement these in our daily lives. We are dedicated to spreading truth, increasing awareness (political, social, religious, etc.) in our community, dissolving stereotypes, resisting oppression, and strengthening the bonds between Muslims and humanity at large.

We seek to educate, and be educated; to promote a better understanding of Islam among Muslims and people of other faiths - and to provide a space to gather and unite the Muslim student body.

Meetings

We hold meetings/gatherings every Monday at 6:45 P.M. at College Eight, Room 301 (on the 3rd floor).

Here we discuss and plan upcoming events, tell stories, discuss political/social issues, and more. All are welcome, and any questions you may have will be answered here to the best of our ability.

We hope to see you soon!

Re: Women in Islam Week

"We seek to educate, and be educated; to promote a better understanding of Islam among Muslims and people of other faiths - and to provide a space to gather and unite the Muslim student body."

And of course the main topic is why events like this can take place in the US, where civil rights have been trampled by the Patriot Act and a fascist police state, but not in most Arab countries.
