Hey radio folks...
Some of us at Santa Barbara Indymedia have been helping to organize this year's Grassroots Radio Conference being hosted by KCSB 91.9 FM in Santa
Barbara, and it occurred to us (rather belatedly) that y'all anti-NAB activists might be interested.
Sorry for late notice - there is still time to register! :P
The Grassroots Radio Conference brings together media activists and community radio people to share skills and knowledge in everything related to our work. This is the first time that the national conference has been held on the West Coast and the first time that it is being organized by a college radio station. The conference will draw on the DIY approach of community radio, utilizing a non-hierarchical workshop format in which all in attendance can actively participate.
Topics include hands-on news gathering and production, music and politics, national and international policy issues, the workings of radio collectives, and a special series of workshops looking at race, diversity, and representation within our organizations.
The keynote address will be given by UCSB professor Cedric J. Robinson, author of Black Movements in America, who will be discussing the impact of media in creating and maintaining racial constructs.
Nightly performances include Native-American poet and activist John Trudell, Afro-Mexica Funksters The B-Side Players, LA-based Underground Hip-Hop Artist Medusa, and Native-American blues rock singer Arigon Starr.
The entire schedule, along with information about logistics, registration, and scholarship funds, can be found at
