Cesar Chavez honored in Salinas, la lucha sigue...

educationnotwar_4-3-05.jpgOn Sunday April 3, more than 1,200 people marched through the streets of Salinas and rallied at the Cesar Chavez Library. While we honored the life struggle of Cesar Chavez, we too struggle to keep the Libraries open in Salinas. Conncetions were easily made between the US government policy of endless war around the world and the closing of community resources such as the entire library system.

Making Sense of the UCSC Crisis

Last year, the UC made $786 million more than it spent. Yet all we hear about is the “budget crisis.� This doesn’t sound like a budget crisis to us. Our university is in crisis, it’s true, but the main issue isn’t the budget. The main issues are priorities and power. Our resources are being extracted. The space we have to live and learn in is contracting. What all of us really need is a say in how the university distributes its vast resources. What we need is democratization.

Bush Administration May Have ''Lost'' Billion Dollar Settlement for Gulf War Vets

For the past 3 years, the Bush administration has been fighting to nullify a judgement in favor of Gulf War veterans who were tortured in the Abu Ghraib prison when it was still run by Saddam Hussein. The money for this judgement was to come from assets of the Iraqi government that have been frozen. This is only a small part of the 9 billion dollars that dissappeared on the watch of L. Paul Bremer while he managed the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq.
What has happened to the money and what excuse does the Bush administration have for the absurd arguement it has taken all the way to the supreme court?
