Katrina has turned out to be the worst disaster in the recorded history of this nation. What’s most egregious is that it was predicted years earlier in books on climate change and the growing global warming crisis, as well as from local officials of the region who knew of the dangers and tried to get Federal assistance.

Since disaster displaced hundreds of thousands from New Orleans, I've heard much talk from self-appointed experts about what will be the fate of New Orleans residents and very little input from community members themselves. This organization is being set up as a "People's Hurricane Fund," which is organized by progressive community leaders from the New Orleans area. It is endorsed by United States Labor Against War.

The current administration in the White House is fast becoming one whose "accomplishments" are measured now more in terms of body bags and the availability of potable water than anything remotely resembling genuine progress. From the streets of Fallujah and Baghdad now to the gulf coast of the United States, the consequences of a White House that worships the supposed miracle solution of "free markets" and digital warfare in all things has finally come full circle.
