"Social security" and "social insurance" are both polite euphamisms.

An insurance policy is a contract I choose to sign, and choose to pay into. It's like gambling in Vegas, only in reverse - you bet on losing, not on winning.

SS is not a contract, because it is not voluntary. We are attacked and punished if we do not pay into it. I need that money to save up for buying a house *now*, not in 30 years when all I can do is pay rent at a trailer park.

SS may assist retirement for the lazy and irresponsible, but it only burdens and sabotages retirement for those of us who could and would do far more with our money if it wasn't being taken from us under threat of attack by the IRS.

SS is also just an excuse for Washington DC to get its hands on money it does not own, hold it, and play games with it.
