Hummingbirds have done so well because of feeders that they have changed their migration patterns. Anna's hummingbird in Santa Cruz stays all year round rather than going south as a result of feeders.
This could cause some ecological problems, but obviously these birds are doing well.
Perhaps you can show me a study that shows hummingbirds collecting and digesting pollen, but this not at all my understanding.
Most flowers adapted to hummingbird pollination have their anthers situated in such a way where the pollen is picked up and transferred, but not ingested. I find it hard to believe that any incidental pollen in the diet would be important. Perhaps you can direct me to a study that says so.
OK, I must admit that saying that nectar is only sugar water is an over simplification. These, however, are the primary ingredients that hummingbirds depend on from flowers. Hummingbirds never rely solely on feeder or flower nectar for food. They get proteins and other nutrients they need from the arthropods they hunt.
One of the primary risks to hummingbirds from feeders is that they be fed red dye #40. I don't understand your hostility to me teaching people of that fact.
