First, the city is not doing anything at all to provide "funding" for the hotel. It is funding, and will own, the parking garage, which will soon serve the sanctuary visitor's center.
Second, convention centers have, as the writer above noted, flagged since both 9/11 and the advent of online meetings. Conference centers, though -- which are an entire order of magnitude smaller -- are not only doing well, but outstripping the rest of the hospitality industry.
In short, neither risk identified by the writer actually, in fact, exists.
