"You just want to fight the new hotel and conference center because you and your low-income buddies can't afford to stay in such places nor attend conferences at such centers."
-Not necessarily. When I have had to pay for lodging, I certainly didn't look for the biggest, megahotel, though. You're making a gross generalization. Of course, you probably just assume I'm "low-income" because I choose to stay with friends whenever possible -- though it is because I actually enjoy other people.
"In your myopic and over-simplified world view you use "the rich" as your universal one-size-fits-all scapegoat."
-There is nothing written above about "the rich." Did you bother to read any of it?
"With nothing productive to do with your time, you attack the hotel."
-Just curious, when have we met and since when do *YOU* know what I'm doing with my time? Among many other things I am doing, I am (and WILL) take the time to fight this monstrous beast that sucks up $30 million+ of PUBLIC FUNDS for a PRIVATE investment. That's "being productive."
"You attack those who are building modern society stone by stone, instead of making positive contributions (because that would require commitment and hard work.)"
-Newsflash!! Thank God someone is finally building modern society stone by stone!! I was about suffocate from the veritable jungle surrounding me; all the excess oxygen makes me feel woozy! In fact, the rainforest has gotten so dense lately that I have to machete through the thicket not once, but twice a day. It is so inspiriational that you are building modern society (wasn't the Coast Hotel "modern"?) through your commitment and hard work, Horatio.
"No wonder Santa Cruz sucks down so much public money in handouts from its neighboring cities, counties, and even states."
-Awww, FUDGE! I keep hearing about these Santa Cruz money sucking parties, but I never get invited to them! Screw 'em! Let's throw our own money sucking party, right on beautiful E. Cliff Drive!
"Not only will none of you work for a living, you refuse to let others work for a living!"
-You are, sadly, correct. While perusing the reference section of the library (say "LIE-brair-ree"), I came across this shocking piece of information: "Hippy Harald VII's Sixty-Third Proclamation: Thou Shalt Not Work -- Ever!! Not even to grow your own vegetables, babysit children or walk dogs!!" Tsk, tsk. You poor thing.
"That's why tourism and UCSC are your economic lifeblood, keeping your grocery stores and head shops and independent book stores in business. And you would crush them too if you could, of that I am sure."
-Why, Yes!! Wouldn't that be GREAT?!? Stopping those damn GREEN GROCERS, the Frickin' INDEPENDENT (=PINKO!!) Bookstores and, the Mother of all Satans, those booming HEAD SHOPS!!! It would be like a big tossed salad of fruits, nuts and just the right touch of COMMIE (=GREASY) oil. I'm getting hungry already!
