Even in Santa Cruz County prisoners, even juveniles, are kept "under twenty four hours of electric light exposure." Likewise, when a prisoner is released in Santa Cruz County, they often have probation or parole restrictions on their activities. This was no different with Mordechai Vanunu.

19 years ago, Vanunu traveled to England and revealed tightly guarded state secrets about Israel's nuclear arms program. He was later caught when he agreed to meet an attractive woman in Italy, in a sting operation, and was then taken back to Israel for prosecution where he was convicted on treason charges.

When he was released a year ago, one of his conditions was a prohibition on conducting interviews with foreign press. This is not that unreasonable when you consider his crime was to run, not walk, to a foreign press source and deliver state secrets on Israel's nuclear weapons program.

Vanunu, who was born in Morocco and is not Jewish (I believe the author is mistaken on this point), felt obligated to devulge classified information which could affect the ability of Israel to defend itself from attack. Most Israelis consider him a traitor, and there was even some discussion 19 years ago to make an exception in Israel's no death penalty policy just for Vanunu.

As for this question,

No government on earth reveals every detail of their military arsenal and ability to mount an attack. This author is holding Israel to a standard that is no different from any country on earth, including the country she lives in.

This passage, intended to show Israel's racism actually shows the racism of the author. First the flimsy and unlikely contention that Vanunu is a decendant of the ancient Caananites (like it matters!). Second, the inference that the Jews "don't belong" and "aren't indigenous" is promoted when neither is true. In fact, currently 60% of the citizens of Israel were born in Israel. Ariel Sharon was born in Israel. Arafat wasn't. This author makes no mention of the vast majority of Palestinians who migrated to Israel from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and other Arab countries. While none of these are "indigenous" in the sense the author intends, she only singles out the Jews as "not belonging." This is racism.

He is being detained because he violated his parole conditions ---NOT because he is Christian, or anyone wants to take revenge on him, or because he supposedly has Caanan genetics. This is just the author showing her own-deep seated prejudices. And the only radical extremeists who are damaging Israel physically and psychically are members of Hamas!!

"Jews do not need a state.." Well!! This shows the author's true intentions! She wants Israel gone. Dismantled, overthrown, or even ethnically cleansed of Jews. Despite 24 Arab/Muslim countries, she focuses on the one JEWISH country in the world to get rid of.

"One golem is thousands of displaced refugees created by ethnic cleansings and massive punishments. The other golem is displaced settlers created by ethnic preferences."

Wrong on both counts!! The displaced refugees (and she is NOT talking about the 800,000 Jewish refugees forced out of dozens of Arab countries in 1948 - 1950 with no compensation for lands and property seized) were caused by the Arab leaders first telling the people to flee, and then failing to integrate them into the Arab countries into which they fled. Israel holds no culpability for either of these.

Jewish settlements have not displaced Palestinian settlements. These Jewish communities on the West Bank have, without exception, been built on vacant land. Currently they are on only 1.7% of the land mass of the West Bank with about 400,000 Jews currently living on the West Bank. By contrast, Israel has 1.2 million Israeli Arabs who are citizens.
