Santa Cruz Indymedia

ever hear a phrase "don't kill the messenger"?

We open the reporting process to the public, and still people insist on blaming us for what does or doesn't get posted. *sigh* How many times must I explain this?

> "What could be more non-commercial, local, and under-
> reported than reporting on the activities of the local
> HUFFists?"

This city is full of stories that, compared to HUFF, remain totally unreported. HUFF is good about advertising their events in advance, so they get coverage. We can only do so much.

> Most likely this article on HUFFist activities and lies
> will get placed in some hidden little corner where people
> will have a hard time finding it.

The same old censorship cry. Get over yourself. Events come first on the newswire. Your editorializing comes 2nd.

And looking at the Admin page for a list of hidden articles:
santacruz.indymedia.org/display.php3
I see only 4 of yours that are "hidden". Of these, 2 are duplicates of their neighbors, and those neighboring posts are comments on other articles.

Comments are "hidden" so as not to clutter the newswire - they are found by going to the article to which the comment is linked.

Oh yeah, you're so repressed.

Even if both of these posts (ignoring the duplicates) were originally posted as top-level newswire articles and relegated to comment status by our Editor after the fact - so be it. Looks reasonable to me. Everyone (or rather everyone's ego) wants to have their work center stage for all to see. Can't be done, we don't have the screen space.

Editorials on existing subjects get removed from the top level, and placed under a related article. And yes, Im sure if you dig hard enough through the archive you'll find a few instances where poor Joe has, for whatever reason, failed to strictly enforce this. GET OVER YOURSELF.

> The Santa Cruz contingent of Indymedia ought to call

> THE PC NEWS -your source for inflammatory flyers free of

> indymedia is about:

Our dedication is to open access to a publishing mechanism for news. Our newswire is for news, our comment threads are for debate. Your blatant axe-grinding, copius citations notwithstanding, does not qualify as news. We do not run an open newswire so that people can have a soap box.

And no, Im not going to spend hours addressing your laundry list of HUFF criticisms. I have better things to do, like reporting on events such as HUFF actions so that people like you can have the luxury of sitting at home criticizing what these groups do without getting off your ass to attend the actions yourself.
