The UC administrators are practically begging to co-opt tent U. Just look what they have done with MLK day (hey the colleges run videos and have their activities directors sponsor poetry readings by people of color!) etc. The point of tent U and other movements of meaning is to change the core dynamic of the system...not to jazz a sick system up with meaningless window dressing. and by window dressing I mean simply accepting token classes on "racism" token administrators of color or females or queers. It's not enough to have the system not work and say everything is okay because now there is an unlearning racism class offered once every leap year. And while on the subject of tokens, let's not ignore that leading the strike against higher wages for lower level employees, and students demanding accountability are the captains of UCSC... a chancellor ( a lesbian) the head of student affairs (a chicano) the head of Housing (lesbian) and a female (gail heit). It's not simply about diversity if the diverse folks in position to make decisions are between the ears and in their actions the same as conservative white males.
the U wants to co-opt movements
