UCSC STUDENTS: DO YOU WANT OVER $700/YR. IN NEW FEES?
VOTE NO ON MEASURES 19, 20 & 21
UCSC Elections - May 17-23 - elections.ucsc.edu
Athletes Against Unreasonable Fees Opposes the New
“Student Life Referendums:
Measure 19: a new indoor events center esp. for sports
Measure 20: a $70 fee that would go specifically to
fund sports teams
Measure 21: a new outdoor sports facility
WE OPPOSE THESE MEASURES BECAUSE
• If passed, these referendums will raise your fees
over $700 per year. This is IN ADDITION to the annual
student fee increase made by the university.
• The “Student Life Referendums come at a time when
important academic programs are being slashed from
UCSC.
• The success of our current sports teams has shown
that we do not need huge additional fees to have
strong athletic programs.
• Many schools nation-wide have shown that there are
other ways to fund sports besides new student fees.
• The money generated by these fees will be controlled
by the administrators, NOT the students.
• These new unneeded fees will negatively affect the
diversity of students on this campus.
Athletes Against Unreasonable Fees wants the
University to retain its character as a unique liberal
arts college with successful athletic teams rather
than make such extreme changes that would make it
another faceless D-I sports university. We believe
that our sports teams can be successful in our
endeavors while maintaining the integrity and the
character unique to UC Santa Cruz.
