Great article. I suppose if we took to making things that last (like a car and a water faucet that both last for 100 years instead of only 5-10 years) we might actually be able to take most of our time off after 2 years to persue more productive things. The trade-off would be that when things last so long, they don't get replaced with more modern equipment very fast so innovation might slow down. Unless things were designed to be upgradeable. We could always just send stuff back to be remanufactured. That's hardly much different than my current job.
