This is a shorter version of my original article. I posted it because tons of ads are now appearing to encourage people to buy turkeys for Thanksgiving. I'm hoping readers will make compassionate food choices for their Thanksgiving dinners and thus, avoid supporting cruelty with their grocery dollars.
The first Thanksgiving also included many vegetables such as squash, corn, pumpkins and greens. We are fortunate enough to live where many vegan choices are available.
Although turkey is a "traditional" part of Thanksgiving, all traditiions had a beginning—and can be ended when public awareness of cruelty increases. For example, enslaving human beings was once a "tradition" in the US which had been ended.
Cruel traditions don't have to be continued just because they were being done for a long time! (such as human sacrifice practiced by early "civilizations for centuries")!
