AL-NAKBA means "THE CATASTROPHE" in Arabic.
For Palestinians, AL-NAKBA is the beginning of their quest for justice and peace.
- In 1948, 850,000 Palestinians were forced from their homes in what was to become the state of Israel.
- Highly organized Jewish forces engaged in
well-planned "clearing" operations in key areas of
Palestine.
- Over 400 Palestinian villages were depopulated and wiped off the map.
- Hundreds of civilians were massacred by Jewish
militias.
- To this day, Palestinian refugees have never been allowed to return to their homes and now number over 5 million, comprising the world's largest refugee population.
- Over 3 million Palestinians now live under brutal Israeli occupation in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem (about 40% of their original homeland).
