This is not true in Santa Cruz County. The welfare department only gives women the amount of money per dependent that their tables allow. A family of four (1 mom and 3 kids) might get $648 a month. She may have child support orders totalling over $1000/mo. The State does NOT pay for orders that are unpaid. They still go after the fathers for the full amount of the court order. The State also adds on its 10% interest which they collect for themselves before a dime goes to the mother.
