Iraq veterans are committed opponent of the U.S. war and occupation of Iraq.

But, those energetic younger anti-Zionist Jews with whom I conversed -- like me, my Palestinian friend, and my non-European Jewish acquaintance -- indeed fervently wanted Palestine-Israel to be a multicultural society where *EVERYONE* has ABSOLUTELY equal rights (with no tricks in the small print) without regard to ethnicity, race or religion.

The Democrats claim that they are campaigning for "Anybody But Bush." That is either a lie or a bad faith. Their creed is, in truth, Anybody But Nader.

NO to Ashcroft and Abu Ghraib, to pre-emptive wars and Patriot Acts, to "smart bombs," lockdowns and midnight raids, to Rumsfeld's leer and Cheney's sneer and Rice's lying eyes.

NO to razor-wire penned-in "protest zones," to FBI knocks on the door, to infiltration, permit denials, fear campaigns, slanders, threats and massive shows of force . . . all to stop a goddamn protest in the park.

NO to living in a "new Rome". . .

Or an "old" Germany.

Free Radio Santa Cruz is Making Waves. On August 31, 7pm, at the RCNV there will be a benefit for Free Radio Santa Cruz. "Making Waves" is a new documentary by Michael Lahey about UNLICENSED MICROradio stations in Arizona and Michigan.

Making Waves reveals the pirates' personal and political passions that compel them to defy the FCC. As they confront the difficulties and risks of running an unlicensed station and take their fight for free speech into the open, the film invites the viewer to ask, 'If the public took back the airwaves, what would they sound like?'
