Re: WISH LIST from Free Radio Santa Cruz

Wish list from a listener and potential donor to FRSC:

1. An income and expense statement, to help assure us donors that our past contributions have been well managed - has one of these been produced for any time period within the past ten years of operation?
2. A balance statement listing assets and liabilities
3. A business plan with a budget
4. A contingency plan that gives some assurance that the funds and equipment donated today wont be stolen again by men with guns

Anarchistic thought and action are reasonable and appropriate forms of action and self-government. Flailing anarchism that exists only to confront authority is, however, often inefficient, ineffective and unprepared to compete competently in the open marketplace of ideas, as well as being ill equipped to defend against assaults from the State.

A contingency plan that includes 500 lbs of concrete to sink all of the equipment into can only raise the confidence level of those donating the equipment that it will not be confiscated so easily next time. A contingency plan of any sort can only raise donor's confidence.

Re: WISH LIST from Free Radio Santa Cruz

there is no way to ensure that illegally transmitting equipment will not be seized by the man. that is ridiculous! austin buried their gear in concrete and it still got seized. none of the items on the wishlist are transmitting gear (except maybe the power supply), but studio gear. you can't bury your studio in concrete!
to ask frsc for a business plan and balance sheet is offensive to me as a free radio activist (Free Radio Olympia), or to demand an accounting of expenses. ten years of solid service to the community should be enough.
frsc challenges the authority of the government to regulate free speech and radio broadcasting. they will always be a potential target of the us government, as long as there is a government. none of us are well-equipped to defend ourselves from assaults by the state. we can only persevere in spite of these assaults, and we will.
frsc, i hope you get your wishes, (although i know you can get by without a flat screen monitor , but it is a WISH list after all...)

Re: WISH LIST from Free Radio Santa Cruz

I am a frsc listener and for the record:

I see the four points listed above as a positive and constructive criticism. I have full faith that FRSC is using its resources very wisely but that does not mean we should not strive for total transparency in finances. My suggestion is that the person who made the four point post go to a meeting of the collective and offer their services to help create the documents he/she proposed. They will be labor intensive to create so it would be unfair to burden a volunteer force with administrative duties during this intense time of struggle.

FRSC has always sought to give me an honest account. I am confident in their understanding of the need for transparent accounting. I doubt the collective sees any of their expenses as something they can't share with the community.
